ABV: 13.0%
Grapes: Malbec, Merlot, Tannat,
From: Cahors & The Lot, France
Dark inky-purple in colour. Gamey aromas of black cherries, liquorice and tobacco. Muscular tannins on the palate with flavours of plum pudding, cassis and dark chocolate. Chewy in texture, excellent acidity and a tart, complex finish.
The 25-hectare Chateau du Cedre is one of the leading wine estates in the Cahors appellation of Southwest France. Founded in 1956 by Charles Verhaeghe, the estate is now run by sons Pascal and Jean-Marc, Pascal having studied in Burgundy and California. The aim of the estate is to compete successfully with the New World Malbecs, particularly those of Argentina. 'Cahors' replaces what was the 'Prestige' wine and is a blend of 90% Malbec and 10% Tannat and aged in new oak. A masculine and complex wine it will keep for another 3-5 years.
Full bodied red, serve at room temperature. Pairs well with beef and venison.
