2021 Retsina of Mesogia
2021 Retsina of Mesogia
ABV: 13.0%
Grapes: 100% Savatiano
From: Spata, Mesogia, Greece
Yellow-amber in colour with a citrusy and herbaceous nose with noticeable aromas of pine, well integrated tannins and acidity on a textured palate.
This isn't like anything else if i'm honest but its nowhere near as scary as it sounds, personally love this wine.
Dimitris Georgas is the fourth generation of the Georgas family to farm this estate and to produce wines; he took over the running of the family estate twenty years ago. The family’s wine-making techniques have evolved over the years, responding to changes in the consumer palate, for instance, less resin is incorporated into the Retsina wines, and cold maceration is used. The family’s 6-hectare estate comprises 12 small, but different plots. This wine uses wild yeast fermentation with fresh local pine resin. Matured for 1.5 months in stainless steel, undergoes naturally malolactic fermentation. No filtration
Serve nice and cold so get this in the fridge for a few hours. Try with strong goats cheese or feta, also works well with a spicy sausage / charcuterie.
