TRY ME IF YOU LOVE: Italian skin contact wines
ABV: 10.1%
GRAPES: 100% Vermentino
TASTING NOTES: Opens with aromas of lemon barley, white pepper, and green apple skin, layered with rose petals and spice. Bright acidity drives the palate, yet its texture is sleek and lightly creamy, finishing with a distinctive chalky minerality.
PAIRS WITH: Ceviche, grilled prawns or spicy Asian noodle bowls.
SERVE ME: Chilled, pop in the fridge for an hour
Koerner Wine stands out by combining Clare Valley and Adelaide Hills terroirs with ultra-hands-on, minimal-intervention winemaking. Every batch reflects a deep sense of place, texture and freshness rather than heavy human manipulation.
This skin-contact Vermentino is grown on the northern slopes of Gullyview Vineyard in Watervale, Clare Valley. Its makers, brothers Damon and Jono Koerner, were named Australian Young Guns of Wine in 2019. Their travels through France and Italy inspired a fresher, lighter style now central to their winemaking.
Grapes are picked early to retain acidity, fermented naturally and spend 20 days on skins. The wine is then aged on lees for seven months in steel, bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulphur. It is vegan-friendly and made from organically farmed grapes.
